New Smyrna Beach, FL – A New Smyrna Beach High School student organization and academy recently received a donation totaling $3,000 from the Florida Hospital New Smyrna Foundation and the Kiwanis Club Foundation of Southeast Volusia County. On February 2, NSBHS’s Medical Academy was presented with $1,500 from Florida Hospital New Smyrna and students in the Key Club were presented with $1,500 from the Kiwanis Club Foundation. Back in November, donations were collected at the 21st annual Holiday Charity Ball held at the Brannon Community Center. Over 375 people were in attendance. “We are very appreciative of the New Smyrna Beach High School Key Club and Medical Academy for all of their assistance and support of our annual Holiday Charity Ball,” said chairman of the Florida Hospital New Smyrna Foundation and a Kiwanis member, Pat Driver. “In appreciation of their ongoing dedication, we are proud to donate $1,500 from this year’s event to support their ongoing school programs.” Since its inception in 1996, the Holiday Charity Ball has become a tradition in the city. Kaye Walker, local philanthropist and business owner, organized the first ball with the intent to back local charities. Donations collected at the event also helped support youth organizations in Southeast Volusia as well as helped provide mammograms and medical equipment to those in need.
