Port Orange, FL - A dog is dead after fire destroys a mobile home in Port Orange and damages two others nearby.

Port Orange Fire & Rescue says the call for help came at 9:29 this morning (December 11th) on the 500 block of South Greenway Drive, with crews getting to the scene in the Parkwood South community just northwest of the Taylor and Spruce Creek roads intersection around six minutes later.

POFR Chief Ken Fustin says the fire is under control, but what started it isn't clear at this point.

"Two adults [have been] displaced," Fustin added.

City of Port Orange spokeswoman Christine Martindale says the dead dog was a small pit mix which was buried in the backyard by firefighters soon after its body was discovered inside the destroyed home.

"The fire will be investigated by [the State] Fire Marshal's [Office]," Martindale noted.

The home where the fire started is a total loss, estimated at $75,000. The amount of radiant heat damage to the homes on each side was $10,000 each.

A Chevrolet Corvette parked nearby also had around $5,000 in damage from radiant heat.
