FHP: Vehicle Involved In Fatal Crash May Have Been Found

Orange City, FL - The Florida Highway Patrol may have found the vehicle involved in the death of an elderly bicyclist yesterday morning in Orange City.

Troopers say a tip from the public led to the discovery of a silver 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe in a residential neighborhood within a few miles of the accident scene on US 17/92 near Enterprise Road.

72-year-old Pedro Carrera Perez of Orange City died at Florida Hospital soon after the incident around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to FHP Lieutenant Kim Montes.

"The vehicle has significant front-end damage consistent with striking a bicyclist," Montes added. "The owner is a female and declined to give troopers an interview without her attorney."

A witness who called 911 initially told FHP the vehicle which hit Perez was a gold Chevy Suburban, but Montes says the Tahoe will be processed for evidence regardless.

"The vehicle was taken to an inside storage facility to protect it from the elements," Monted noted. "Troopers are still attempting to locate any surveillance video."

No other information was released by FHP, including the owner of the vehicle or the address where it was found.

Charges are pending at this time.
