Sanford, FL - A Daytona Beach man was arrested on Monday afternoon after Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says that he intentionally hit one of their trooper's patrol cars while the trooper was stopped on the shoulder of I-4 near Sanford. 38-year-old Ryan John Hithersay, of Daytona Beach, was driving a 2005 Hyundai eastbound along I-4 at around 12:28 PM on Monday. Joseph Perri, the 42-year-old FHP trooper, was sitting in his marked FHP patrol car, finishing paperwork at mile marker 103 on I-4. The Hyundai left the roadway and crashed into the left side of the patrol car. FHP says that Hithersay later got out of his vehicle, walked back towards the patrol car, and admitted to striking the patrol car on purpose. According to officials, neither Hithersay nor Perri was hurt during the impact, but Perri was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Hithersay was arrested for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and was booked into the Seminole County Jail.
