Volusia County, FL - A 58-year-old Sorrento man is dead in the first motorcycle-related fatality of Bike Week 2019.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened around 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon (March 10th) on Pioneer Trail north of State Road 44 between New Smyrna Beach and DeLand.

Troopers think the victim - who has yet to be identified as FHP looks for his next of kin - was heading eastbound on Pioneer Trail when he ran off the road on his 2007 Harley-Davidson and hit a sign near Pioneer Way, ejecting him from the motorcycle.

He died at the scene.

An autopsy is pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The FHP report also noted that the rider was not wearing a helmet.

No other vehicles were involved, according to troopers at the scene.
