FHP: 1 Dead, 1 Hurt In SR 415 Head-On Crash

Osteen, FL - Charges are pending as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a fatal head-on collision which shut down both sides of State Road 415 this morning.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. on the intersection of Thompson Avenue, right next to the Osteen Diner.

Troopers say the Deltona woman who died at the scene - 42-year-old Kimberley Ayala - was driving a 2007 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle southbound when a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck going northbound drifted right in front of her.

It's not clear at this point why the driver of that truck - 46-year-old Ramon Hearn of Edgewater - drifted into the wrong lane, per the FHP report, but it does show that Ayala tried to swerve out of the way to avoid the accident.

Hearn was seriously injured in the crash and transported by paramedics to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford.

Both victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors, according to FHP.

The road opened up to traffic around 12:30 p.m., per scanner traffic.
