Daytona Beach, FL - What's billed as the largest truck show in the country has rolled out of town but not without more than 18-hundred citations being written by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
DBPD Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan rode along with police officers. He said going by the numbers, people were a little more well-behaved this year. Bendayan said the numbers were lower in every category, especially crashes. He said last year, DBPD handled 23 crashes during the truck meet. This year, there were only four reported.
Bendayan said he credits the numbers being lower due to a couple of things. One is the fact that DBPD worked with event organizers to keep things more, well, organized. Also, according to Bendayan, the event organizers worked with DBPD and put a lot more planning into the event, about six months, than in years prior.
The information gathered this year will go into planning for next years event and Bendayan said hopefully, the downward trend in number of citations issued will continue to go down.
Volusia County Beach Safety issued 103 traffic citations and made 40 arrests due to Daytona Truck Meet 2019.
