FCSO Uses Narcan To Stop Man In Bunnell From Overdosing On Heroin

Bunnell, FL - The Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) says it used a Narcan kit to stop a man in Bunnell from overdosing on heroin on Wednesday evening in the fourth Flagler County heroin overdose case this week.

FCSO says it responded to the Hess gas station on U.S. 1 in Bunnell after a man was found unresponsive and unable to breathe. After deputies gave the man two doses of the Narcan medicine, the man became alert, responsive, and began breathing again.

All four overdose cases that Sheriff’s deputies and the Fire Department have responded to this week in Flagler County involved intravenous heroin and required the use of the opioid overdose reversal medication.

Since last November, all FCSO deputies have been required to carry kits which contain the Narcan nasal spray that can reduce the effects of an opioid overdose. You can read more here.

“All Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies carry Narcan and are trained in how to use the life-saving drug,” says Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “This is the first save by deputies administering Narcan since we issued it last year. We recently arrested a drug dealer whose heroin was attributed to overdoses. If you have recently purchased heroin in Flagler County, I recommend you turn it into a Sheriff’s Office location, no questions asked, to be destroyed. Your high is not worth dying for.”

Anyone who has information on the sale of heroin in Flagler County is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 386-313-4911 or email TIPS@flaglersheriff.com. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). You could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.00.
