Edgewater, FL - Police are reporting that a recent Edgewater Post Office mailbox theft has resulted in six separate cases of check and money order fraud.
Investigators believe mail was stolen from the exterior blue mailbox on the south side of the Edgewater Post Office located at 400 S Ridgewood Avenue. The theft is believed to have taken place sometime between May 19 and May 20.
The six reports of fraud have so far totaled more than $15,000. If you used the exterior mailbox between May 19 and May 20, you are urged by the Edgewater Police Department to check your banks accounts for fraudulent activity.
If you are a victim, call EPD dispatch at 386-424-2000. The EPD is currently gathering information from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The United States Postal Service has taken jurisdiction of the investigation.
