Edgewater, FL - Officers are searching for a white man with a long goatee who reportedly tried to abduct a child on his way to school.

The Edgewater Police Department says it happened around 7:30 AM Wednesday on the 100 block of West Turgot Avenue.

EPD Captain Joe Mahoney says a 9-year-old Edgewater Elementary School student was riding his bicycle to school when the suspect approached him.

"The male asked the child if he wanted to come to his house," Mahoney noted. "The child fled and returned to his home."

The suspect is described as a heavy-set adult white male standing between 5'2 to 5'8 with medium length black hair and a long black goatee.

"The male was wearing a black long sleeve T-shirt, black shorts, black tennis shoes and sunglasses," Mahoney stated. "Extra patrols will be conducted in the area of both elementary schools within the city."
