Volusia County, FL- Area residents can dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs on Saturday during the DEA’s National Drug Take-Back Day. Volusia County Sheriff’s Office PIO Gary Davidson said that most local law enforcement agencies are taking part. During the last 5 take-back events, more than 2.8 million pounds of prescription drugs have been collected across the country. Davidson also said that drugs that are disposed of improperly can cause some real problems. Many people flush expired medications, which can lead to something called “ground work contamination.”

The event takes place this Saturday, April 30, from 10 AM until 2 PM. The disposal service is part of a national effort to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means for the public to voluntarily dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.
