Driver Who Lost Control, Killing Toddler In Daytona, Has Died

Volusia County, FL- The elderly driver who took the life of a toddler and sent the child's mother, another motorist and himself to the hospital, has died.

The accident happened on Williamson Boulevard in Daytona Beach in late May. Police say 85-year-old Ray Beams of Port Orange had Alzheimer's disease.

He left his home on May 23 and was headed south on Williamson when he hit another car, went over the median and into the northbound lanes. He hit the mother and child who were on the sidewalk. The toddler died at the scene.

Police Chief Mike Chitwood confirmed to WNDB News that Beams died of natural causes.
