Dog Rescued From DeLand House Fire

DeLand, FL - A 140 pound Weimaraner is alive and well, due to the work of some DeLand firefighters. The 6-year-old dog, Joker, was rescued Wednesday morning from a house fire at 231 W. Fiesta Key Loop in the Mallory Square subdivision. Fire officials said no people were in the house but they got word about Joker being inside. DeLand and Volusia County firefighters got the fire under control and found the dog. Joker had been overcome by smoke and was placed on oxygen for about 15 minutes. He reportedly recovered without issue City of DeLand spokesperson Chris Graham said no injuries were reported but the house is considered uninhabitable. The fire is under investigation by DeLand’s fire marshal and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
