Port Orange, FL - A deputy is on administrative leave after they open fire on a suspect who took aim at law enforcement.
A report released by Volusia County Sheriff's Office says police in Holly Hill are investigating reports that a 32-year-old Port Orange man was allegedly threatening a woman who was the victim in his recent aggravated stalking arrest.
When confronted by Holly Hill police, he fled, and was then spotted shortly in Port Orange.
The suspect was found outside of a 7-Eleven convenience store on 1632 Taylor Road by law enforcement around 10:45 p.m., who noticed he was armed, per VCSO officials.
Deputies and Port Orange police then confronted the suspect who aimed a gun at his own head, before turning the gun on law enforcement. That's when the shots were fired.
VCSO says the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at Halifax Health Medical Center soon after he was airlifted.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigation is now underway as the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard in these kinds of investigations.
