Deputies And Orange City Police Shoot And Kill Armed Man

Orange City, FL – Update: The armed man shot and killed by Deputies and Orange City Police Officers on Sunday night has been identified as 47-year-old Westley Daum.

The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Wednesday to confirm the cause of death.

During the shooting, 1 deputy fired bean bag rounds, and 5 deputies and 1 Orange City police officer fired their duty weapons.

Deputies and Orange City police officers shot and killed an armed man last night when he pointed a gun at them. The man is only identified now as a 47-year-old Orange City resident. The shooting happened in the 600 block of Lantern Lane just before 11:30 PM. No law enforcement officers were hurt.

It all began with a report of a man who had parked his truck in traffic and was pointing a gun at passing motorists in the middle of Volusia Avenue near Graves Avenue. The man was gone when law enforcement got there. The truck was spotted a short time later and he eventually stopped the truck on Lantern Lane. That’s where the shooting happened.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating which is standard in all law enforcement involved shootings.
