VCSO: Victim Spots Stolen Items For Sale On Social Media, Thieves Arrested

Posted
Deltona, FL - A Deltona couple is behind bars after they allegedly stole thousands of dollars in tools and truck parts from a man, who later saw his stolen property for sale on social media. The victim told Volusia County Sheriff's deputies that he had left an unlocked workbox on the back of his truck on Friday night. Sometime overnight on Saturday, someone stole several items from that workbox. Most of the stolen tools belonged to him, but a box with truck parts and some tools, worth about $600, belonged to his employer, Ring Power Corp. of St. Augustine. The victim reported the theft on Saturday morning, then called deputies back on Sunday afternoon when he found the what he believed to be his stolen property for sale on two social media sites. Detectives tracked down the couple and a detective made an offer on one of the items up for sale. One of the defendants, 27-year-old Ian Way, suggested he and the detective meet at the Circle K at Howland and Elkcam Boulevards in Deltona. Way was arrested at the Racetrac gas station and when they searched his vehicle, detectives found the victim's stolen air hammer that they had negotiated to buy. Way was charged with burglary of a conveyance and grand theft under $5,000. After arresting Way, detectives went to his home, at 2994 Greynolds St., to get the rest of the stolen property. When they got to the home they found Way's girlfriend, 30-year-old Jessica Ryan. She told detectives that there was a toolbox inside the home, but she didn't let them search and denied knowing anything about the stolen property. Ryan was taken into custody and charged with dealing in stolen property. Both Way and Ryan are being held at the Volusia County Jail. Detectives executed a search warrant at Way's home, where they found several stolen items and prescription narcotics. Detectives are investigating the stolen items and are trying to figure out who the owners are. Anyone with information about this burglary or the suspects is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 1-386-248-1777. Or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477 (TIPS), or go to WeStopCrime.com, and you could be eligible for a cash reward.
