Deltona, FL - A 19-year-old man is now out of jail on $120,000 bond after Volusia County deputies claim he and three other men broke into a Deltona woman's home in the dead of night, robbing her and three children at gunpoint.
Brandon J. Aviles now faces six felony charges in connection to that early Sunday morning incident, including home invasion robbery with a weapon, two counts of false imprisonment, one count of false imprisonment of a child under 13, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony and grand theft.
Volusia County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Andrew Gant says Aviles - a Deltona resident - was arrested within 24 hours of the break-in and left Volusia County Jail on Memorial Day.
"Detectives continue to work to identify three others who were involved," Gant added.
The break-in happened at a home on Chippendale Street around 3:45 a.m. Sunday and the suspects got away with over $4,500 in cash, according to the arrest report.
"The victim told deputies she was sleeping when four unknown male suspects, all wearing dark clothes and face masks, woke her up by pulling her blanket off and pointing several guns at her," Gant noted. "The suspects demanded money and got away with the victim’s cash and cell phone."
The suspects also took the cell phones of the two girls - ages 15 and 11 - and the 10-year-old boy in the home at the time, according to Gant.
"Two of them told deputies one of the suspects held them at gunpoint while they were lying on a bed," Gant stated.
VCSO wouldn't identify any of the victims or say if they are related, citing that the case is still under active investigation. The arrest report does show that the woman told deputies she thinks the suspects may have tried to rob her boyfriend before in Seminole County, though it's not clear why she said that.
Detectives did say that one of the stolen phones was tracked to Aviles' home on Stillwater Avenue around three hours later, leading to a search warrant to enter the home later in the day.
"The victim’s phone was lying on his bed and one of the kids’ stolen phones was on a bedside table," Gant said. "Deputies also found a pair of black pants, a black shirt and a black do-rag consistent with the dark clothing description provided by the victims."
Aviles' vehicle also ran by a License Plate Reader system in the area just before the break-in, per VCSO.
Aviles has no prior bookings at VCJ, according to county records.
No injuries were reported.
