Deltona, FL-A 29-year-old Deltona man was arrested less than a half-hour after holding up a Great Clips store on Elkcam Boulevard in Deltona on Wednesday night. Frederick Staats faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and driving with a suspended license. Reports say that Staats wore a hooded sweatshirt and a shirt wrapped around his face when he barged into the salon just after 8 P.M. on Wednesday, screaming for someone to open the cash register. Two customers were getting their hair done. One said he clearly saw a gun in Staats hand. Employees complied with the gunman's demands and handed the money over. Staats ran out of the store but dropped three ten-dollar bills along the way. His concealment efforts failed, as the shirt fell from his face and some of the witnesses got a good look at him Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the robbery at 8:16 P.M. An employee was able to give a very detailed description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle, a silver, four-door Kia Sorento with a plastic bag covering up the rear license plate. A deputy spotted the vehicle on Providence Boulevard but lost sight of the vehicle as it sped away. At about 8:33 P.M., a resident on Darlington Avenue, about four miles from the hair salon, saw the vehicle abandoned in his back yard, the engine still running. A few minutes after that, a man rang the doorbell at a home on the next block over, on Enfield Street, asked to use the phone and offered a resident $20 if he would give him a ride. Deputies were alerted and rushed to the residence, where Staats was located in the driveway and immediately taken into custody at 8:45 p.m. No shots were fired and no one was injured in the robbery. Staats is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
