Deltona, FL - An 18-year-old convicted felon in Deltona is facing numerous charges after Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies (VCSO) found three rifles and multiple rounds and magazines of ammunition in his possession. On Friday, April 13, the Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team and the VCSO’s SWAT team executed a search warrant at a Courtland Blvd. residence in Deltona. As SWAT members approached the home, they made contact with Evelyn Snider who was then taken into custody. She was sat down on a couch in the living room of the home as investigators questioned her. She revealed both she, her daughter Alexis Snider, and her 18-year-old son James Snider Jr. lived at the home and indicated which bedroom belonged to whom. Meanwhile, investigators set up a perimeter around the area and began searching for James Snider Jr., who they believed had left the residence as SWAT approached. Deputies later apprehended James Snider Jr. after finding him hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence. He was taken back to his home for questioning. James Snider Jr. identified his bedroom and told deputies that he had two AR-15 rifles, an AK-47 rifle, a safe, and a small amount of cannabis in his room. Deputies then conducted a search and found the two AR-15 rifles in plain view, the AK-47 in the safe, multiple rounds and magazines of ammunition, cannabis and drug paraphernalia, counterfeit $100 bills, thousands of dollars in cash, and a security monitor/DVR. Investigators asked James Snider Jr. if he had a tax stamp, which is required by the National Firearms Act (NFA), for the AK-47 and the silencers and he replied that he did not. Investigators believe the drug paraphernalia, which included digital scales and 1" x 1" zip-top bags, is a sign of the sale of street-level quantities of illegal drugs. They indicate in the arrest report that the proceeds of drug sales are typically hidden in safes with other illegal items such as drugs or firearms. Investigators conducted a criminal history search on James Snider Jr. and found that he had two prior felony convictions for attempted robbery with a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony. Now, Snider is being charged with 10 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted in state felon, possession of a short-barreled gun/rife/machine gun, and possession of cannabis, not more than 20 grams.
