Deltona Citizens Water Committee Making Progress

Deltona, FL - The Deltona Citizens Water Committee is making progress in helping citizens with issues such as getting deposits back for people who have paid on time for two years or more, getting a little more leeway on payment dues dates and getting those occasional exorbitant bills taken care of. Dana McCool, a member of the Committee and Executive Director of Deltona Strong, said the Committee has also made progress in defining the scope of the requested audit of Deltona Water.

McCool said that residents did need to get their payment into the Water Department Office by 4 p.m. on the date it was due or their account would be on the shut-off list for the next day. That has been changed to all payments in the office by open of business the day after the due date are considered on time. McCool says that little bit of additional time can really help families living paycheck to paycheck.

Another change that's beneficial to water customers is the Water Department has given credit for the deposit amount to their accounts if they have a good two-year payment record. McCool believes that most people have received that credit but if you think you might be due to have your deposit returned, you're encouraged to contact the Water Department and enquire about it.

As far as the audit, McCool said there is a meeting of the Citizens Water Committee this Wednesday, August 21 at 5 p.m. in Deltona City Hall. She encourages residents to attend and offer their input as they put the final touches on the scope of the audit prior to putting it out for bid.
