DeLand Police Looking For Men That Scoped Out City Hall, PD, And Elections Office

Posted

DeLand, FL - Two men wandered freely through the DeLand City Hall, the Police Department and the Volusia County Elections on Monday afternoon and DeLand Police want to know why they were there.

Police say the pair were taking photographs and appeared to be checking out the building's security cameras around 1 p.m. When a staff member questioned them, they identified themselves as "independent" and later said they were "independent journalists."

It's reported that the men were on all three floors in City Hall in a short amount of time, then left the building.

Prior to city Hall, the men were in the front lobby of the Police Department, where it appeared they were checking out the security cameras.

After City Hall, the men were seen headed toward the historic Volusia County Courthouse. Supervisor of Elections Office staff confirmed the men were there also, taking pictures and checking the security cameras.

DeLand Police say, out of an abundance of caution, they'd like to identify the men and talk to them.

Police are using this opportunity to remind residents if you see something, say something. Do not be afraid to call 9-1-1 if you believe the situation could be a potential emergency.

If anyone has information on these two men, please contact the DeLand Police Department at 386-626-7400 or people may leave an anonymous tip on our website.
