DeLand, FL – The DeLand Police Department is investigating after a 15-year-old was shot over the weekend.

It happened just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday (November 17th) at a home on Sherwood Drive near West Beresford Avenue, according to a DeLand PD web report.

The girl told police she was sitting on the back porch of a home on the 900 block of Sherwood when she was shot at least twice, according to city spokesperson Chris Graham.

"The girl was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for her injuries, which were not considered life-threatening," Graham added.

Officers think the girl - who lives at a different home in DeLand - may have been shot accidentally, but it's not clear at this point, per Graham.

"Possible witnesses at the scene declined to give statements to police about what happened," Graham noted.

No other details have been released at this time. We'll update this story as more becomes available.
