DeLand, FL - Classes are back in session at Stetson University, and the DeLand Police Department sees this as a great time to educate drivers and pedestrians on how to stay safe.

On Tuesday, police officers will be running a pedestrian safety operation in partnership with the University at the intersection of Minnesota Ave and Amelia Ave. While there, officers will be stopping pedestrians and drivers that violate traffic laws to teach them what should and shouldn't be done.

On September 13, the operation will be stepped up - officers will focus on enforcement and will issue warnings and citations.

Officials want to make sure drivers know if you fail to yield to a pedestrian, you could be fined and points could be added to your driver's license. Pedestrians can be fined for crossing the street without using a crosswalk.

Both operations will be held between 10 AM and 2 PM.
