jail DeLand, FL - A DeLand man will spend the next 7 years in prison after he threatened to kill 2 federal officials - including the President of the United States - and assaulted a Secret Service agent. 24-year-old Jeremy L. Addison learned his fate during a hearing on Tuesday in an Orlando federal courtroom. The US Department of Justice says Addison mailed a threatening letter to President Barack Obama in September 2014 while awaiting trial on several unrelated charges in Volusia County Jail. In that letter, Addison allegedly wrote to Obama "you’re a dead man... boy I hate swine. I’m the general me… and anthrax, so yes I intend to kill you." Prosecutors say a US Secret Service agent interviewed Addison about the letter afterward and Addison spit in the agent’s face during that interview, saying "I am going to kill you, too." After he pled guilty in this case in October 2015, Addison wrote another letter threatening to kill the Assistant US Attorney handling the case but then wrote another letter 4 days later apologizing for the threat, per DOJ. The court determined that Addison had not accepted responsibility for his criminal behavior and that he had obstructed justice by writing another threatening letter. As of 3 PM Wednesday, Addison is currently locked up at VCJ while awaiting a move to federal prison. VCJ records show Addison's been booked there 6 times since October 2008 on a slew of charges, including attempted 1st-degree murder with a gun, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, grand theft auto, drug possession, introducing contraband into a prison and driving without a driver's license.
