DeLand, FL - The DeLand Fire Department has achieved the second highest rating possible from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), and that could mean insurance premium savings for residents and businesses.
The ISO gave the DeLand Fire Department a Class 2 rating, which is only given to a handful of fire departments in Florida, according to the City of DeLand. Over the past nine years, the fire department increased its ranking from a Class 4 to a Class 2. The City credits the improved rating to the fire department’s dedication to response capabilities and efforts by the city’s Utilities Department, which has replaced hydrants and lines across the city to improve water flow. “This is an example of departments within our city working together to improve the quality of life in DeLand and provide high-quality fire services for our residents and businesses,” Mayor Bob Apgar explains. The ranking is issued through the Public Protection Classification Program and analyzes the community's firefighting resources, emergency communications, and water supply. The ISO rating is one factor that insurance companies use to determine commercial and residential insurance rates. “I am proud of all of the staff at the fire department, Volusia County Communications Center, and the Utilities Department for working together to obtain this rating,” DeLand Fire Chief John McDaniel says. “This is a realization of the effort by city personnel and continued commitment by the City of DeLand leadership to public safety.” Photo courtesy City of DeLand.
