DeLand Community Unity Day To Benefit Kids In West Volusia

Deland, FL – The Color Line Roundtable and the City of DeLand are sponsoring a Community Unity Day, featuring sports, music and opportunities to meet new people, all to benefit several non-profits that help kids in West Volusia.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 29, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Earl Brown Park, 750 S. Alabama Avenue, DeLand. The day will begin with a 1-mile warm-up walk with a basketball tournament, 1-mile relay race, sack races and a team tug-of-war competition throughout the day.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams from each sporting event will be able to donate to a non-profit of their choice. The donation can be given to any of the following non-profits:

  • Boys & Girls Club of DeLand
  • Catalyst Global Youth Initiatives
  • DeLand Dawgs Youth Sports
  • Hispanic American Group of Deltona
  • Man-Up (Mastering the Art of Navigation by Universal Principles
  • ROPSE (Right of Passage/Successful Encounters)
  • Temple Learning Center
  • The House Next Door
  • The Neighborhood Center

Hotdogs, hamburgers and water will be served for free by the Downtown Rotary Club of DeLand until they run out. Sonny’s BBQ will be selling food as well. Live music will also be played throughout the event.

New Police Chief-designate Jason Umberger will speak at the event at 10 AM. The DeLand Police Department, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Volusia County Corrections will also be present.

“The goal of the event is to bring together diverse members of our community to participate in organized sports competitions, listen to family-friendly live music and enjoy food in an atmosphere where mutual interest and respect can allow strangers to become friends,” says Don Kerr with the Color Line Roundtable.
