Daytona Beach Shores, FL-Clint Johnson, DeBary’s mayor, came ashore this morning after a night on a homemade raft. He plans to float something similar from Cuba to Florida.

Beach Safety Captain Tammy Marris says Johnson was not in distress and came ashore just before 8 AM in the 2500 block S The Beach in Daytona Beach Shores. Beach Safety officers helped him ashore.

Johnson, who is 30-years-old, says he plans to fly to Cuba and then return to FL after building a similar raft there in an effort to better understand Cuban immigrants. He plans to make the trip sometime in mid-April.
