Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department wants locals to know that they have Biketoberfest under control. This is the 27th year for the annual event that brings more than 100,000 bikers to town. DBPD Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan encourages non-bikers to use the Seabreeze/Oakridge Boulevard or International Speedway Boulevard bridges to access beachside. The plan is to keep Main Street and the Main Street bridge as motorcycle-only during the course of the rally.
Bendayan has a heads-up for those that ride with loud pipes. Officers will be writing tickets for those infractions throughout Biketoberfest. They will also be enforcing decal parking, especially beachside. Anyone parking where they shouldn't be might be ticketed and they could be towed.
The biggest traffic problems are Main Street and North Beach Street where the motorcycle shops are. Many events are scheduled for Daytona International Speedway but major traffic concerns are not anticipated. Bendayan said there could occasionally be minor traffic patterns implemented to assist with traffic going in and out of the Speedway.
Special traffic patterns will be set up on A1A, both north and southbound approaching Main Street. Look for motorcycle-only parking on selected areas of North Beach Street.
Uniformed officers will be writing tickets and directing traffic but Bendayan says there will also be undercover officers in the crowds to keep things from getting out of hand.
Biketoberfest begins today and runs through Sunday.
