DBPD: Man Killed In Daytona Crash Fled Police & Was Driving Stolen Motorcycle

Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach police (DBPD) say that a man, who was driving a stolen motorcycle, was killed in a crash near the International Speedway Bridge after fleeing an officer early Monday morning. Police responded to the scene of a fiery crash at the 300 block of International Speedway Blvd. at around 1:43 AM on Monday. DBPD says officers discovered the frame of a blue motorcycle and that the area was "littered with motorcycle parts." The driver of the motorcycle, 24-year-old Rodney Baker, was found on the sidewalk of the International Speedway Bridge. Baker was pronounced dead at 1:53 AM. DBPD says that Baker had fled from an officer minutes earlier at the 100 block of South Hollywood Ave. after the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop. Baker sped away, according to DBPD, and he continued down Hollywood Ave. Officers discovered that Baker had crashed after they saw flames and smoke near the 300 block of International Speedway. DBPD also discovered that the blue motorcycle Baker had been driving was reported stolen from Holly Hill on Sunday night. Police say no other information is available at this time.
