DBPD Identifies Victims Involved In Fatal Downtown Collision

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department has identified the passenger killed during an early Monday morning crash at the foot of the International Speedway Boulevard bridge in Daytona Beach.

The crash, which occurred just after 2 a.m. on Monday, involved a Buick heading east on ISB and a Ford Escape speeding northbound on Beach Street. For earlier reporting on this story, click here.

According to Lyda Longa, the spokeswoman for the Daytona Beach Police Department, the man killed was 21-year-old Malik Coleman, of Ocala. At the time of the crash, Malik was a passenger in the Buick that was being driven by a 19-year-old preganant woman from Fanning Springs.

Longa also identified the driver of the Ford Escape as a 34-year-old Daytona Beach man. After the crash, the driver was taken into custody on unrelated felony warrants for fleeing/attempting to allude while police lights and sirens were active and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license. The passenger of the Ford was identified as 41-year-old Daytona Beach man. He was also taken into custody after the crash on an unrelated felony warrant for failing to properly register as a sex offender.
