DBPD Arrests Woman For August 2018 Hit-And-Run

Daytona Beach, FL - A woman wanted in a fatal hit and run in August 2018 is now in the Volusia County Jail. Daytona Beach Police had a warrant issued for 24-year-old Emma Sanders-Smith on April 2, 2019. She was booked sometime today.

The accident happened in the 600 block of North Nova Rd. early on the morning of August 25, 2018. Around 2:30 a.m., someone called 9-1-1 to report a man lying in the street. Officers determined that the deceased man was 62-year-old Jose Palomares and that he had been the victim of a hit and run.

Traffic homicide investigators found a car part at the scene and located the vehicle but not the driver.

Sanders-Smith is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. Her bond is set at $50,000.
