Daytona Beach, FL - Three suspects are in custody after Daytona Beach Police officers say they were involved in a drive-by shooting in the 1300 block of Moore Street yesterday (July 9) evening. Arrested are 21-year-old Rasheem Smith, 23-year-old Diante Thompson and 27-year-old Demackalis Few, who is also a known Florida gang member.

The drive-by was reported just before 7 p.m. with multiple units responding. Witnesses told officers that multiple shots were fired from a maroon in color Dodge Challenger. A car fitting that description was spotted moments later driving recklessly in the area of LPGA Boulevard and Daytona Avenue. Five minutes later, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a maroon in color Dodge Challenger near the intersection of LPGA Boulevard and the northbound ramp to I-95. The car failed to stop.

At this time, other area agencies, including the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, joined in the pursuit. Three black males exited the car near the intersection of Saint Mary's Road and Old Dixie Highway, running to a silver Audi that was waiting for them. The suspects took off in the new vehicle but finally had to stop because of multiple flat tires near the intersection of Ridgewood Avenue and Fremont Avenue at about 7:38 p.m.

Three black males got out of the car to flee on foot. In the front passenger seat of the car, officers found 24-year-old Zipporah Shavers. As she was taken into custody, a K-9 officer bit her. She was taken to the hospital for treatment then released into police custody.

The same K-9 officer also bit Few, after tracking him to a nearby wooded area. He was also treated at the hospital and released to police custody. Thompson was found by an officer hiding behind some trashcans on Ridgewood Avenue and taken into custody. Smith initially ran then complied with officer commands.

As for the charges: Shavers is no longer in custody after being charged as an accessory after the fact. Since Few is a known gang member, he's being held on multiple charges with no bond. Smith remains in the Volusia County Jail. Bond has been set for some of his charges but there are several firearms charges with no bond set. Thompson is also still in custody, with no bond set for several of his charges.
