Daytona Beach, FL - A man is dead and two others are in critical condition after a car went airborne and hit a tree just south of Halifax Harbor Marina.

23-year-old Alex Thomas died at the scene on the 600 block of South Beach Street around 3 a.m. Labor Day, next to Cedar Street.

Daytona Beach Police Department spokesperson Lyda Longa says Thomas and two other men - 25-year-old Marquise Jenkins and 23-year-old Danquelle Nash - were in a silver Pontiac which was speeding north on Beach.

"The driver lost control and slid off the roadway," Longa added. "The car’s front bumper slammed into a large tree, prompting the vehicle to go airborne. The car’s roof then struck the tree."

First responders found all three men inside, but it's not clear at this point who the driver was, per Longa.

"No criminal charges are anticipated," Longa noted.

Jenkins and Nash were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center by paramedics.
