Update: On Wednesday the Daytona Beach City Commission approved a $15,953.90 work authorization to equip the site of the new First Step Homeless Shelter with a fiber optic communications network.

The Daytona Beach City Commission will decide on Wednesday whether or not to approve a $15,953.90 work authorization to equip the site of the new First Step Homeless Shelter with a fiber optic communications network.
If approved by the Commission, the work authorization would enlist the services of the Holly Hill engineering firm, Parker Mychenberg & Associates. The firm would then prepare engineering plans, and a utility permit would be obtained from the Florida Department of Transportation in order to bring a City fiber optic communications network and security system to the First Step Shelter site. The funding for the work authorization is available in the City's Information Technology Fund.
The 100-bed, 24-hour, full-service shelter was approved for construction by the City last summer for the area off of International Speedway and Red John Rd., west of I-95.
Another item on the City's agenda is a resolution to approve $767,950 to replace the roof of Daytona's Peabody Auditorium, which was damaged during Hurricane Matthew. If approved, the construction contract would be awarded to Collis Roofing. According to City records, the project could be eligible for 75% cost share from FEMA and an additional 12.5% cost share from the state of Florida.
