Daytona Spy Shop Hit Again

Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach-based spy shop is hit again by a burglary attempt.

Except this time, the burglars brought more firepower.

In an email sent to News Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Spy Shop owner Rick Raymond said that burglars tried to hit his store again, but instead of a hammer they tried to use a blowtorch.

Back in June, burglars tried to break into the shop before just using a hammer on the front window. They were unable to break through the glass, due to the fact it was hurricane glass, which is capable of withstanding Category 5 speed winds (150 mph+).

But early last Wednesday (July 24th), the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to the store off of Ballough Road along with the Daytona Beach Fire Department after getting reports of a fire at the business.

Firefighters told police that they saw smoke coming from the building but the fire seemed to be extinguished. They used thermal imaging and found that most of the heat was coming from the door locks, leading them to believe that the fire was started from an electrical current going through the locks.

The Fire Department then cut power to the building and made entry through the rear door. Once inside, they found that the door had no electrical current going through it, but there were burn marks consistent with the use of a torch, leading them to believe that someone tried breaking in.

Police made contact with Raymond's neighbor, who responded to the scene with Raymond's permission to assist officers.

With his help, police checked security camera footage and found burglars trying to break in through the front door using a professional blow torch. They were also able to grab a license plate from the four-door Nissan that they used to get to the store.

As they attempted to get through the door, they started a small fire in the store which set off alarms, sending them running away from the scene in the Nissan.

When police searched the tag, they found out that the tag was reported stolen out of Orange County, according to a tag hit from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

According to Raymond, law enforcement did find the vehicle and the torch in Orlando. They also supposedly arrested one out of the three suspects.

News Daytona Beach is currently working on confirming that information with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
