Daytona Beach, FL - One of Florida's largest music festivals finds a new home on the World's Most Famous Beach.
And that festival is Florida's "biggest rock experience," also known as "Welcome to Rockville."
The announcement was made earlier today (July 6th) at the last July running of the Coke Zero Sugar 400, which is looking at a delayed start thanks to weather conditions.
Danny Wimmer, and his company Danny Wimmer Presents, is behind the rock festival which has called Jacksonville's Metropolitan Park home for the last three years.
But, while Jacksonville hosted the festival three years in a row, Wimmer said that Rockville needed to move. That's the result of Jacksonville's continued development of the city's downtown area, which made it impossible for Metropolitan Park to host the festival
"Welcome to Rockville might be leaving Jacksonville, but I'm not leaving Jacksonville behind," said Danny Wimmer. "This is where it all began."
According to Wimmer, another reason behind the move to Daytona International Speedway is partly because of the audience capacity. While Jacksonville allowed Rockville to serve over 90,000 attendees the past three years, Daytona has the ability to increase that number.
That's due to the space of the speedway which will allow Rockville to increase it's audience capacity while providing a "more enhanced experience."
The recent $400 million renovation of the speedway and the additional $200 million invested in the area is also what helped Rockville pick a new home in Volusia County.
"Daytona International Speedway will serve as a great destination for Welcome to Rockville," said DIS President Chip Wile. "The facility is a home to motorsports' biggest events, and we're excited to add this major music festival to our calendar."
The announcement of Welcome to Rockville's move also comes over half a year after Daytona International Speedway announced that the Country 500 would be ending in tenancy at the track.
Last year, Rockville hosted 99,000 in a sold out weekend from May 3rd to 5th in Jacksonville. That same festival hosted some of the biggest names in rock, such as Tool, Korn, Rob Zombie, Judas Priest, Incubus and Chevelle, just to name a few.
Wimmer says the festival's next lineup isn't available yet, but it will be coming out sometime soon.
The 10th Annual Welcome to Rockville festival will run between May 8th and 10th, 2020.
