Daytona PD Search For Vehicle With Possible Tie To Fatal Accident

Daytona Beach, FL - Investigators are looking for a vehicle which may help them learn more about an accident on Labor Day which eventually led to three men dead. The Daytona Beach Police Department released video today (September 13th) showing the vehicle they're looking for and the vehicle which crashed into a tree and went airborne on the 600 block of South Beach Street around 3 o'clock that morning. That's just south of Halifax Harbor Marina. DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longa says that video - which is posted below - came from security cameras at a nearby 7-Eleven, also on Beach, which were rolling a few minutes before the accident happened. "The car in front is the black car that police are seeking information on," Longa added. "The car behind it is the Pontiac that the three men who were killed were in."
A few minutes afterward, the car police are looking for came back into view of the cameras, doing a U-Turn before vanishing again. What kind of vehicle it is isn't clear at this point.
DBPD also released a still traffic camera photo of that vehicle as it passed through the intersection of Beach and Orange Avenue, just north of the accident scene. It's posted above this article. Longa says neither vehicle was involved in any sort of police chase at the time, but it's not clear if the vehicle being sought had any involvement in the fatal accident. Officers estimate that both vehicles were likely going up to 90 miles per hour in the video. That area has a posted speed limit of 30 MPH, per Longa. 23-year-old Alex Thomas died at the scene that day, while the other men in the four-door Pontiac at the time - 23-year-old Danquelle Nash and 25-year-old Marquise Jenkins - passed away from their injuries at a nearby hospital a few days afterward. DBPD now believes Jenkins was behind the wheel when the accident happened.
