Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach police say an office manager at Eddy Storm Protection shutter services swindled the company out of over $600,000 over more than a three-year period. 31-year-old Ashley Monaghan was arrested yesterday after a lengthy investigation. An investigator with the Division of Public Assistance Fraud came to Eddy Storm Protection at 1000 Nova Road in Daytona Beach to ask for Monaghan's pay stubs in October 2017. The investigator said that Monaghan was unable to provide the pay stubs and that Monaghan told her that her name was "Candi." The owners of the business also received a subpoena for Monaghan's pay stubs. The state investigator returned to the business again months later looking to talk with Monaghan, but Monaghan said she had a family emergency and had to leave. An accountant for the business also conducted an audit of the company's payroll accounts. The audit found that Monaghan had direct deposited $495,603 into her personal bank account between 2015 and October of 2017. Monaghan was the only employee who handled payroll. Monaghan was fired shortly afterward, and DBPD was called to investigate in December of last year. Police say Monaghan embezzled $606,560.80 in direct deposits from the employer between May 2014 and December 2017. Arrest records show Monaghan often claimed on her pay stubs that she worked more hours than are physically possible on a weekly basis and that she even forged her boss's signature on her paycheck. "Since the payroll books were under her auspices, nobody really checked on her," says Lyda Longa, Public Information Officer for DBPD. "Since she had control of everything, she was able to forge all those hours." Monaghan was booked into the Volusia County Jail yesterday afternoon is now charged with grand theft, fraud and passing forged or altered instruments. Monaghan's mugshot courtesy Volusia County Jail.
