Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach man, who was wanted for felony aggravated battery with a firearm, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after leading police on a car chase through streets and backyards and nearly running over three officers. Daytona Beach police responded to 409 Ellsworth St. in Daytona Beach Wednesday at around 3:19 PM after getting a tip about a potentially armed man with a felony warrant. Officers found their suspect, 25-year-old John Windom, in the passenger's seat of a white Toyota Corolla. A woman was in the driver's seat, and she exited the car. Once officers confirmed the identity of their suspect, they told Windom to get out of the car and show his hands. According to police reports, Windom did not comply, and he moved from the passenger's seat to the driver's seat and took off in reverse. As Windom took off, he backed into one officer's K-9 patrol car and almost ran over the officer, who jumped out of the way. The K9, Ox, was in the patrol car at the time of the collision but was not hurt. Windom fled north on Ellsworth Dr. and hit a parked truck. He nearly hit two other officers in the process. Officers pursued Windom through several streets as Windom drove through oncoming traffic and through the yards of several homes, according to police reports. During the pursuit, Windom's car tire began to shred, and he bailed out of the car on foot. The car he had been driving was left running, and it collided with a fence. Windom continued to flee on foot, but police caught up with him near a home on 3rd St. Windom tried to resist arrest, but he was ultimately taken into custody. As police searched the Corrola Windom had been driving, they found drugs in the center console. Windom has no valid driver's license. He was issued six citations and is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, and felony drug offense, on top of his felony aggravated battery with a firearm charge. He was held without bond.
