Daytona Beach, FL – The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating an apparent suicide this morning involving a train.
DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longs says a 51-year-old man was hit and killed around 6 this morning on George W. Engram Boulevard at the Florida East Coast railroad tracks which run parallel to U.S. 1 throughout much of the Daytona Beach area.
"[The] man jumped in front of the northbound train," Longa added. "Police learned that the man had parked his vehicle on Charles Street, walked to the track and stood in front of the train."
The train stopped for around two hours as detectives investigated, causing traffic issues throughout much of downtown Daytona during that time, especially along Charles Street between Engram and Mary McLeod Bethune boulevards.
WNDB News will not identify the victim due to the nature of the incident.
