Daytona Beach, FL - Three people are hurt - including a pregnant woman - and a man is dead in the wake of an overnight traffic accident in downtown Daytona Beach.

It happened just after 2 o'clock this morning near the corner of U.S 92/International Speedway Boulevard and Beach Street, right at the foot of the ISB bridge connecting the beachside to the mainland.

Daytona Beach Police Department spokeswoman Lyda Longa says the driver of a Ford Escape was speeding north on Beach Street going at least 80 miles per hour, well above the posted speed limit.

"At the same time, another motorist [in a Buick] was heading east on East International Speedway Boulevard approaching Beach Street," Longa added. "The driver of the Ford slammed into the Buick."

A male passenger in the Buick died at the scene. It took several hours for first responders to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Longa.

"The driver of the Buick is a pregnant female who was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition," Longa stated.

The other two injured were men inside the Ford Escape, with the driver suffering a fractured skull. Both of them will be held by DBPD on outstanding felony warrants unrelated to the accident.

DBPD has yet to release the identities of any of the people involved.

Drivers were asked by DBPD to avoid ISB westbound near Beach Street for much of the morning as investigators processed the scene, but the road has since reopened.
