DeLand, FL - After a two-day trial, a 44-year-old Daytona Beach man accused of First Degree Premeditated Murder was convicted and sentenced to life in prison on Thursday morning. Johan Chiri was arrested on April 7, 2015, for the murder of his wife after his child found the body on the couple's bed. “This case is a prime example of the brutal and deadly nature of Domestic Violence," State Attorney R.J. Larizza said after the verdict. "The defendant’s flimsy claim of insanity was rejected by the jury who held him accountable for the senseless murder of his wife. Our hope is that the victim’s daughters and other family members will find some peace now that this case is over and the Defendant was sentenced to life in prison.” Homicide Investigative Unit Prosecutor Ryan Will was the lead prosecutor for the case, with help from Assistant State Attorney Joseph Brack. Chief Circuit Judge Raul Zambrano presided over the case and pronounced sentencing.
