Daytona Beach Fire Department To Hold "Fries With A Firefighter" Event

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) is giving the community an opportunity to voice any questions they may have for firefighters during their first "Fries with a Firefighter" event.

Much like the Daytona Beach Police Department's "Coffee with a Cop," the DBFD's event will help firefighters engage, inform and listen to the concerns of the public.

From 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Thursday, July 6, the DBFD will be at the McDonald's west of I-95 at 2994 US Hwy 92, Daytona Beach. There, the DBFD will utilize the stress-free opportunity to share life and property saving fire safety tips with residents, an opportunity they rarely get due to the fact that most of their interactions with the public occur under emergency situations.

The DBFD will also be demonstrating "Hands-Only CPR" and giving blood pressure checks.

“The Fire Service was created to meet the needs of the community. To meet their needs, we have to engage the community in a non-emergency environment to listen, learn, and understand how best we may serve them” says Dru Driscoll, Daytona Beach Fire Chief. “We hope this program is a success and becomes a regular event to help further the bond we enjoy with our community.”

Everyone is encouraged to come and those who do will receive free French fries with the purchase of a sandwich.

"We just hope to have members of the community come to McDonald's and meet their local firefighters and get a chance to know who would be responding to them if they were ever in an emergency situation," says Sasha Staton, a spokesperson for the DBFD.
