Lake County, FL - A crash in Lake County claimed the life of a 27-year-old man from DeLand on Sunday morning and sent three others to the hospital.

The crash occurred at 7:20 AM June 4 near the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 42 when a Honda SUV was traveling eastbound on State Road 44 and a Hyundai three-door was traveling westbound on State Road 44. For an unknown reason, the SUV traveled into the westbound lane and struck the other vehicle head-on.

27-year-old Jay Sanders of DeLand was ejected from the passenger seat of the SUV and died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries, and the driver and passenger of the second vehicle were taken to Central Florida Region Hospital with minor injuries. Sanders was the only one of the four that was found to be without a seat-belt.

So far, alcohol was not found to be a factor, but the crash is still under investigation and charges are still pending.
