Daytona Beach, FL – A crash between two semi-trucks along Interstate 4 in Daytona Beach leaves one of the drivers dead.
The wreck occurred on the eastbound side at mile marker 130 in Daytona Beach just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. That’s between the U.S. 92/International Speedway Boulevard and State Road 400/Beville Road exits.
FHP Sergeant Kim Montes says the accident caused traffic delays for nearly three hours as troopers and other first responders worked the scene.
“One semi-truck was stopped on the right shoulder of eastbound I-4,” Montes added. “The second semi-truck was traveling eastbound, left the roadway and sideswiped the stopped semi. The second semi-truck continued off of the roadway and struck several trees.”
The driver of the second semi – now identified as 64-year-old Adria Rodriguez-Santino of Jacksonville – died at the scene, per Montes.
The FHP report notes Rodriguez-Santino was wearing a seat belt at the time.
The driver of the first truck was not injured. He has not been identified at this time.
An autopsy is pending to determine what substances – if anything – was in Rodriguez-Santino’s body at the time of the accident.
