One Dead, Two Hurt In Lightning Strike In Daytona Beach Shores

Daytona Shores, FL-Update: Two people were hurt and one person died after lightning struck the beach in Daytona Beach Shores. A Georgia couple was among the victims. 33-year-old Janika Gardner died of her injuries. Russell Scott remained hospitalized. 55-year-old Anna Nikorak of Daytona Beach was treated and released from the hospital.

Earlier reporting follows:

Two people were seriously injured after being struck by lightning in Daytona Beach Shores today. Volusia County Beach Safety Captain Tammy Marris said a man and woman, who are tourists, were standing in ankle-deep water when a sudden storm came up and they were struck by lightning. They were knocked unconscious.

Marris said the couple was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
