Pierson, FL - Volusia County is looking for the public's input on the design of Shell Harbor Park, which will be on the eastern shore of Lake George.

Members of the county's Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will be joined by staff from Engineering and Construction in a presentation at the Pierson Community Center, 124 W. Washington Ave, at 6 PM on Monday, September 12. The event is open to the public, and public comments have been requested. Members of the Volusia County Council have also been invited.

Shell Harbor Park is partially funded by a Volusia ECHO grant, and will be built on the eastern shore of Lake George. There will be a public boat ramp, a kayak launch, a floating dock, a pavilion, restrooms, and an asphalt parking lot and road. "Shell Harbor Park is actually gonna be the only boat launch on Lake George in Volusia County, managed and open to the public," said Tim Baylie, Director of Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture.

The $1.1 million park will span 9 acres at 1800 Shell Harbor Rd in Pierson. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017.

Baylie also wanted to point out that no general fund dollars will be going towards the development of this facility.
