lifeguard-buoy New Smyrna Beach, FL - Volusia County Beach Safety is excited that the old New Smyrna Beach Lifeguard Station will officially be replaced with a brand new headquarters. A ribbon-cutting is tomorrow at 9 AM. The 1,800 square foot building at 291 Buenos Aires Ave. will be the new site for the Beach Safety Division's New Smyrna Beach headquarters. "We're really excited about this new building," said Captain Tammy Marris, Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. One of the reasons everyone involved is so excited about the new building is storage. "A lot of people don't realize some of the stuff we have. Other than just our vehicles, we have jet skis, UTVs, ATVs... so this is just great and we're really excited about it." "The old building was at least 50 years old," said Captain Marris. "It was pretty worn down... We could have up to 35 personnel working in there on one day. It had one bathroom, it was really small, it was probably about 1,000 square foot." Free parking for the ribbon cutting event will be at Barracuda's Bar & Grille until 10 AM, and at the Flagler Ave. beachfront parking lot. Paid parking is available on the beach. Volusia County Council is expected at the event. flagler ave lifeguard station
