City Of DeLand: No Charges In Hotel Putnam Fire

DeLand, FL - No charges are expected as the Florida Fire Marshal's Office wraps up the investigation into an arson case at a historic hotel in downtown DeLand earlier this year.

That's the latest word from the City of DeLand about the April 29th fire at the Hotel Putnam near the corner of State Road 44/West New York Avenue and U.S. 17/North Woodland Boulevard.

"The fire that occurred earlier this year at the Hotel Putnam is expected to be ruled as intentional," said city spokesperson Chris Graham. "This case may be reopened with the discovery of new and/or additional information."

State fire investigators are expected to officially close the case around September 1st, per Graham.

The hotel was vacant when a witness called 911 reporting flames coming from inside the building. By the time firefighters arrived, the flames were through the roof, as shown in the footage below from the city's Facebook page.

Anyone with information about the fire is urged to call the state Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations at 877-662-7766 or the City of DeLand Fire Marshal at 386-626-7042.
