Cigarette Cause Of Brush Fire In Edgewater

fire another Edgewater, FL-A discarded cigarette is the cause of a four acre brush fire in Edgewater on Friday afternoon. Edgewater Fire Rescue units were alerted to a report of smoke in the area of 27th Street and Alamanda Drive just before 2:00 PM. The fire was discovered by a City Code Enforcement officer in a heavily wooded area just as calls started coming in. Brush fires were able to access the fire using easements along a nearby canal. Florida Forest Service arrived in less than 30 minutes to cut lines around the perimeter of the fire. No homes were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.  Crews did close 27th Street  from Alamanda Drive to Glenwood Drive until 4: 30 PM. Residents should expect smoke throughout the evening and use caution. Edgewater Fire Rescue units will monitor the fire area through the weekend to ensure there are no flare ups.
